The irony is great.
You're a great friend. You showed support to me, cheering me up. I appreciate it. I really appreciate it.
But, you're the one who's hurting me. That harmless and superficial statement hurts me. You disappointed me. The main reason you like a girl because she is cute. In the end, you're hurt too by her, by someone who does not know you as well as I do.
I can't tell you about it because I believe you will avoid me. You're a close friend. But, I conceal my feelings towards you. The greatest irony is when you offer to help me to overcome this sadness and disappointment.
